The innovation workshops conducted by Ron Friedmann at AALL (American Association of Law Libraries) 2019 and ILTACON (International Legal Technology Association Conference) 2019 are summarized as a trending topic in AALL Spectrum magazine in the current September/October issue. Titled, “Breaking down barriers to legal innovation,” the article includes some of the participant’s responses to questions on innovation initiatives and challenges within their organization.
Also included is a graph showing the most common barriers to innovation, which varied by law library type:
- In law firms and agencies or courts, adoption difficulties were cited as the most common barrier.
- In law schools and by a small margin in corporate legal departments, lack of funding or staff is seen as the most common barrier.
Ron is Chief Knowledge & Information Officer at LAC Group. Collaborating with him on the innovation workshops were Marlene Gebauer of Greenberg Traurig and Darin Fox of the University of Oklahoma Law Library.
