If it’s June, it’s SLA; if it’s July, it’s AALL.
These two annual events for librarians, researchers and other information professionals happen back-to-back, and in 2018 they’re taking place in the same location—Baltimore, Maryland.
We just returned from SLA (Special Libraries Association) and look forward to returning to Baltimore for the 2018 AALL (American Association of Law Libraries) Annual Meeting & Conference, July 14-17. The event theme, “From Knowledge to Action,” is an important focus of modern law librarianship.
Visit LAC Group in the exhibit area
LAC Group is an exhibitor of this event so, if you’re attending, make sure to stop by our booth #525 to meet or say hello to Roberta Fox, James Hurley, Katie Leonard or Maria McCarthy—they’d love to answer your questions about legal information trends and tell you more about LAC Group. If that doesn’t interest you, stop by anyway for a show goodie and to enter a raffle for a chance to win a one-year subscription to Amazon Prime, Netflix or Hulu—your choice for entertainment escapism from your legal research and information management responsibilities.
The AALL 2018 conference schedule
The event kicks off with an interesting keynote speaker—Baltimore native John Waters, known for his work in movies, having served as actor, director and writer in titles that have become pop culture classics, like Pink Flamingos, Polyester and Hairspray.
As for educational sessions, following are a few that caught our attention:
Powered by AI, Built in the Law Library
Presented by FastCase CEO Ed Walters, this session will share the kinds of projects that can use AI in law firms and law schools.
Speakers from BakerHostetler will share the benefits, challenges and best practices of a virtual service / remote work model.
Changing Paths and Opening Doors: Transferring Skills Across Law Library Types and Sectors
Several speakers will discuss new opportunities for law librarians and how others have successfully shifted and adapted to new work environments.
Telling Your Story: Using Metrics to Display Your Value
Responding to the growing demand for outcome-based performance, speakers from a law school, law firm and court library will explain the metrics they use to communicate their value.
The schedule is packed with useful sessions addressing a wide range of topics and trends of importance to today’s legal information professional.
