LAC Group has named Tom Miller vice president and managing director of the company’s LAC Federal business unit. Miller has more than 20 years of experience selling to and building business partnerships with federal agencies and their contractors. LAC Federal delivers Library as a Service (LaaS) solutions and mission-critical information and knowledge management services for the U.S. government.

During his career, Miller has lead professional services organizations and grown their share of work with the federal government. At Management Concepts, a provider of management and business skills training, Miller boosted revenue by more than 40 percent in one year, achieving $17 million in sales in 12 months.  At HighPoint Global, which Forbes listed as #16 on America’s Most Promising Companies, Miller helped the provider of customer service training and quality assurance services launch and staff up its Washington, D.C., office, while rebranding its offering for government call centers.

“When I go into a new company, I look at what they offer that’s better than what anyone else can do, and I find places inside the government that need that type of support,” says Miller. “I look at what a company says they are doing and translate it into a meaningful outcome. The point is focusing on what value the government gets from the service – that’s a change in mindset for many firms.”

As government services increasingly turn to digital technologies to collaborate, manage knowledge and serve constituencies, Millers sees the government as the world’s largest repository, or library, of data. Organizing and using that data to solve problems and help the public will take a new breed of librarians schooled in strategies, tactics and technologies ranging from bibliometrics to knowledge management. Knowledge Management, in particular, is where Miller believes the government’s and LAC Federal’s path merge.

“We are a library services company, but what we really do is expertly identify, access and serve up the know-how and information library users need to do their jobs and achieve their goals,” adds Miller. “Our job is more than stacking books.”

“Tom is someone who can not only run LAC Federal but also be a contributor and expert counselor to our leadership team from the outset,” says Rob Corrao, president and chief operating officer for LAC Group. “He brings management and business development experience, so he can lead the business and grow it.”

Miller holds a bachelor’s degree from Towson University. He is active in the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC), Potomac Officers Club (POC) and the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC).
