Making data machine-readable (open to the public)

The Ag Data Commons is the catalog for research data funded by USDA REE—Research, Education, and Economics. Webinars cover a variety of topics relevant to ag research data. Introductory webinars teach researchers to use the Ag Data Commons interface. Other webinars feature topics related to digital data curation and preservation.

Using social media to maximize your job search (for event association members)

LAC Group employee Nathan Rosen is presenting a four-step program to use online social media to improve a job search, maximize online profiles to capture the attention of your target audience and distinguishing yourself as a candidate through superior knowledge of prospective employers. Participants will learn how to assess their current social media profile and take control of what people see. Additionally, attendees will walk through the steps to developing a powerful online social media presence, improving their networking opportunities, increasing the likelihood of finding a job, and enhancing their ability to prepare for an interview.

Advanced Google Searching (part of Advanced Legal Research course for law students)

LAC Group employee Nathan Rosen teaches a class in Advance Google Searching as part of a JD degree program instructing students on the key questions they should ask about every Internet page, how to use Google basic and advance search pages, how to manipulate settings to change search results, image and reverse image searching, copyright considerations, Google Alerts and alternatives, searching for web pages that no longer exist and keeping up with web pages that are changing.

Digital scholarship in a federal research library (open to event association members)

May 2-4, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge MD
LAC Group employee Jennifer Fagan-Fry will be delivering a presentation on digital scholarship services at the MLA / DLA Joint Library Conference, co-presenting with Ingrid Hsieh-Yee from the Department of Library and Information Science at Catholic University of America. Their session, Trends, Design & Strategies for Digital Scholarship Services, takes place on Thursday, May 3 and will focus on what digital scholarship is, what new service opportunities digital scholarship presents, what innovative services have been offered, and how to implement new services.
In the context of a federal research library, Jennifer will discuss federal mandates for publications and data and how the library supports researchers through the entire research cycle, including a bibliometrics program and author services. Attendees will learn various aspects of digital scholarship and trends in support services while earning continuing education credit.
Jennifer Fagan-Fry is on assignment as Institutional Repository Manager at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
