As a fervent believer that librarians make the best digital asset managers, Philip Spiegel, LAC Group Senior Director of Content Management Operations, is a regular speaker and writer on this topic. His latest article, Why your DAM Needs an Asset Librarian, was published October 24, 2018 on the KMWorld website.
DAM is a common acronym for digital asset management, the process of organizing and storing reusable digital content like images, video, audio and presentations for easy sharing, discovery and retrieval.
Phil believes that too much emphasis is placed on technology when assessing DAM solutions, saying:
“I’ve concluded that DAM projects should not be considered exclusively technology projects. Librarians and a library-centric approach to DAM and the organization of assets are the linchpin for successfully managing digital assets and these digital implementations.”
The article also relays the experience of librarian Laura Fu, the newly hired DAM practice lead at EMMsphere.
Prior to joining LAC Group, Phil served as Director of Video Product Operations at National Geographic Digital Motion, the licensing group within National Geographic Television.
